Shuffling around.

It looks like we are going to settle in New Hampshire. We evaluated the options that we had, the areas surrounding the cities that we liked, the taxes, the pay scales, and charted the number or sunny days per year in 15 spots around the country.

We are going to collapse in a heap just about where we are right now. Well, not exactly right here. We are shuffling to another domicile this weekend because our room here at the Inn at Hamster Hill is going to be needed soon for the hoards of horsemen that will descend on this place very soon. Some people can tell that Spring is coming because of the sound of little birds. At this place, Springtime is announced by the sound of many hoofs arriving for "the season".

I posted a resume in a public spot on the Internet and I got a hit right away.
A headhunter wants to send me to a company that I have known about for years that has a position that might be fun. I will probably be a "contractor" until I confirm that the current management has recovered from the years of "reorganization" that it was forced to live through when it was being bought and sold regularly.

We recently met Ralph the "Arborist to the Stars" who is a fellow that LOVES to cook and to feed others. He is a refugee from California with a long story that I was able to track down on the Internet. Very Interesting. I will write about the "Perils of being an honest Arborist" soon.
We are very busy, we are moving our possessions from this spot to another and in general, things are REALLY going to snap into place soon.

New Comment system and Ratings

OK, there is now a brandy-spandy NEW and easy way to leave comments.
The old system did not display people's comments unless you jumped to the archived page and I thought that was just silly.

This NEW system will display your comments AND they are easier to enter.

Play with it. Try it out on this post.
I will delete them (from this post) after a few days.
Experiment HERE and then go WRITE there.

There is also a nifty keen Rating system with five stars for you to experiment with.
Ready.... Go.

Programming

I have been working very hard on some programming in the background of this blog.
I have been doing normal daily stuff but in the evenings I have been poking the inner workings of this whole setup. I will probably pop the new stuff up in a day or two.
And I will add a story or two, maybe a coherent one if you are lucky.

Monday morning on the Outer Banks (OBX, NC)

Good Morning,
If you have been following the story up until now, you may notice a trend of us staying just ahead of record breaking heat, lung busting smoke, and car destroying floods until we finally ended up in North Carolina. We visited Asheville for one whole week and had a lot of fun, and collected some interesting nuggets there, and then the smog was accumulating and we had the urge to move on so we followed the Blue Ridge Parkway into Boone, saw Clay and MaryEllen's place, camped at a wonderful spot, and then zoomed to Apex to visit Chris & Sue for a few days. We unloaded half of our junk there for safe keeping because we needed to have extra space in the van until the end of the month because of... well for several reasons.
We then drove to Cape Hatteras, a place that I had always dreamed of returning to with a girl.
I was last here when bobby and I were teenagers and we spent a lot of time with a couple of wonderful teenage girls, but we were just a little too young. We were all a little too shy, and I was not able to concentrate completely on the wonders of the environment because my hormone addled brain was concentrating way too much on the possibilities.
Well, it is still beautiful here. It is still an unbeatable place to walk when you are holding hands with a lovely girl. I love it. My brain is still hormone addled, but it can devote the time creating actual scenarios and situations and sharing the beauty and wonder of the beach and the creatures scurrying around us instead of creating thousands of possible chess moves like the teenage brain is forced to do every waking hour, and sleeping hour for that matter.

Anyhow, we were on the beach for a terrific sunset followed some hours later by a terrific sunrise. Sometimes the order of those two things can be reversed, but on this island it seems that the sunset is usually BEFORE the sunrise.
We loved it here. We went to re-up with the ranger and found that we couldn't. Gabrielle was going to visit. The campground was being evacuated. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore was kicking everybody out. Even us. Dejected, we headed North. We traveled as far North on the outer banks as we could and then right before the bridge to jump to the mainland, there was a visitor center. We stopped in for a visit. They poo-poo-ed the whole thing, said it was going to fine, it didn't look like the rest of the island was going to be evacuated, here take a coupon book, and be sure to stop at our fine sponsors, have a nice day.

We turned around, headed South again, and started looking for food. We had some great She-Crab Soup and then started looking for lodging. It wasn't so easy. All of the beach side rooms seemed to be taken by news-teams that had arrived to take pictures of the "big storm".
After 4 hours we settled for a parking lot facing room in the Ramada. The crowds in a seaside community are not "the best of humanity", more whining about that later.

After a wonderful evening of big waves, we enjoyed a wonderful morning of big waves, as we watched windsurfers go past us like Lear-Jets.

Beth wasn't aware of it, but she was due for a stress free night, but she was not happy about paying for a room at the Ramada when we had better accommodations for $20 at the campground. So I made arrangements to sneak in to a wonderful B&B for a nice comfy evening. Beth is packing the van now, as I am once again multi-tasking by typing this post at the same time as I keep repeating "Just a minute, I'm almost done here...", whew, it's amazing I can juggle all of this at the same time. The van is probably just about ready to go, so work, work, work, I suppose it's time to drive again. We are going back to our wonderful campground and enjoy one of the best beaches in the world.
Thanks for listening. I don't really have time to scroll up and see what this post was about, but I'm sure I never got there, and if I did, well good for me.
Warren, the guy chasing the ghost crabs.

flowers, butterflies and sunny

Ok, so we are in Sidney, on the Island of Vancouver, BC. We arrived by ferry yesterday late morning. The ferry ride started out in a light fog, but pretty. As we made way, the fog lifted and we were presented with the San Juan Islands. Beautiful! A two hour plus cruise to Sidney went by quickly as we had lots of scenic beauty to enjoy. At Sidney we made our way to our lodging, and were lucky to have a room available for early check in. After a brief tour around our home town for the next 2 nights, we decided to have a quick PBJ lunch and head off to The Butchart Gardens. I plan to have a separate slide show on the gardens in the near future, but for now we are planning on spending every minute enjoying the sights while we are here. I promise the garden pictures will be worth your time. It was indeed worth every penny to view.
After a lovely afternoon visiting the gardens, we then took a tour of a butterfly garden, Warren was totally awed, and spent at least a good hour shooting pictures. Included in the Garden was a few neat ducks, several kinds of birds, two resident flamingos, canaries that sang, and I'm sure several other things that remained hidden watching us. We where ready for some food, so headed back to Sidney along a few back roads to skip the traffic. We decided to have a cold one across the street from our hotel. Then off for a walk up main st. Earlier that day, a couple had told us about one particular Swiss restaurant that was good, so we headed off to eat. When we got there we learned they take reservations and it would be at least an hour wait, so off we went in search of food. We found one place that was Mexican on a side street. They had a unique way of advertising, they chalked arrows with sales pitches on the sidewalk on both sides of the street. I was skeptical that they used this way to advertise, I wondered if they don't get talked about like "word of mouth", it probably would have been good but I just did not feel hungry for Mexican. So we ended up right back where we started from and had something neither one of us had ever had or heard of. You know "something new" a pastrami and sauerkraut pizza. So we ordered the pizza, neither one of us could find the sauerkraut, hmmm, but it was good and filled us up so we where happy.
We enjoyed watching people walking their dogs, lots of dogs. It is lovely where we are staying, we have a nice walkway by the sea, and we can see Mount Baker across the way. Well I am going to sign off, because we are headed to Victoria for a fun day. Remember, look forward to the garden pictures. They will be coming soon.
bye for now,
Beth

Butchart Gardens announced their NEW website yesterday.
Here are some sample images.
I haven't tried it yet, but here is a Virtual Tour.

I have uploaded the pictures that we took.

Our photos of Butchart Gardens or go straight to the flower slideshow.

Our photos of the Butterfly Gardens or go straight to the butterfly slideshow.

Warning!!! These sets are very large. They will consume a huge amount of time if you look at every photo. Go get a cup of tea or coffee before you begin.
Beth is hoping to create her own department just for this kind of stuff, but for now, you can just look at what is there in it's raw state.

We miss you guys and I know you are having a great time - Hope to see you soon!

We were invited to see Kathleen

We met Mike and he wanted us to visit Kathleen. Kathleen is a sprightly 105 years old. Hangs around with a much younger crowd.

Loves to fish. It was joy to meet her.

Hey guys!I wanted to say hi and although I am amazed at your storytelling ability I don't know why I should be. You have shown your creative mind many times over the years and now everyone who knows you and many who don't, can benefit from your talent. Have you ever thought about writing for a living? Of course the story would never end as you would always be adding to or perfecting it, but then again that's not a bad thing. Following your journey is like a reading a good book - You can't put it down. I hope you are bringing as much joy to yourselves as you are to the rest of us.

Fly to the Russian River for some tubing.

After the parade we jumped in some planes and went to the Russian River to do some tubing on this very very hot day.

2007-07-04b Fly to the Russian River

Beth's first time in a small plane. We floated down the river and walked back up.
I built a dam that I was very proud of. OK, I improved a dam, but I was very proud.
Jumped in the planes and came back home for ice cream again.

Beth and Warren are camping right now and pretty much off-line, thus the slow down of postings. Leslie got in contact with Beth today.
Will post the latest chapters in their adventure once I connect with them!
