Ok, just another day of awesome views and I was trying to take pictures of old cars from the sixties when right next to the road was an ostrich. We stopped the car, I got out and was trying to take pictures while he was trying to ignore me.
Then beth pointed out that the ostrich wasn't the only critter in the field.

Oh and did I mention that we saw some
Elepant Seals?
We spent a VERY long time just looking at them.
By the way, I took about
3 gigs of pictures.
I even took movies for the first time.
I haven't really had a reason to use
the movie feature of the camera before
but these things move like a tube of Jello
with teeth. Really cool.
We have to go to the exploring now so
I will put an assortment on here a
little later.

Recipe for Derek's Soup
1 or 2 chopped onions, or about 1 cup, sauteed till soft
4 or 5 (i usually double that) cloves of garlic minced, sauteed till soft
2 small or 1 large butternut squash, peeled, deseeded, 1/4" slices works
1 can coconut milk
1Tablespoon curry spice or 1/2 teasp. coriander,
1/2 cumin,
1/2 cardomom,
1 tsp turmericf
ew handfuls frozen spinach
1/2 cup toasted cashewsv
egg or chicken broth or just watersalt,
pepper to taste
start by boiling squash,
then drain water and add all the ingredients,
stir
gelling takes 45 min to 90 minutes, depends on how fine squash is chopped

The Steampunk Workshop
This is a site from some fun folks that read MAKE magazine. A really fun magazine if you've never seen it.
We drove from Las Vegas to Bakersfield CA yesterday. I will fill in Las Vegas later this afternoon. But here are some pictures of our wierd trip yesterday. It was supposed to be a 90MPH cruise down deserted highways but it was jammed both ways. Most of the way was slow driving and some of the way was stopped. We saw interesting things, Lorraine gave us the confidence to escape from a traffic jam and travel the back roads. We are now with Mary & Tom. Beth and I lived with Mary in Tucson back in '72. She is still wonderful to stay with. Her husband Tom is a peach. When we were in Tucson, she had made a decision to start going to college herself. It paid off. They are both tenured professors (of accounting) at a college around here.
